How we train you
Most shops hand you a product list and a few shadow shifts. We go considerably further. You’ll learn cannabinoids and terpenes, how the plant is cultivated and processed, and how the different formats and delivery methods actually differ from one another. Real science, not marketing copy.
The reason is simple: when a customer asks you a genuine question, you should have a genuine answer. Education is the job. We’d rather someone walk out understanding what they bought than just walk out with a bag.
What the job actually is
Most of your shift is talking to people. Some of them have been buying cannabis for thirty years. Some walked in because their sister told them to and they’re a little nervous about it. Your job is to make both of those conversations easy.
- Knowing the products well enough to answer real questions, not recite a label
- Checking IDs correctly, every single time, no exceptions
- Keeping compliance paperwork clean – New York takes this seriously and so do we
- Restocking, tidying, opening and closing duties
- Making the room feel good to be in
What we’re looking for
You show up when you said you would. You’re warm with strangers without being fake about it. You can hold a conversation with someone who’s asking a question they’re slightly embarrassed to ask. You’re curious enough to want to learn the material properly. You take direction, and you say something when you don’t understand instead of guessing.
Retail, restaurant, bar, or front-desk background helps. Cannabis knowledge is a bonus, not a requirement – we’d rather train the right person than hire the wrong one who already knows the products.
